Balton Rwanda partnered with the Government of Rwanda and The Private Sector Federation, on ‘Farming is Cool Rwanda’. During the launch of ‘Farming is cool’ Rwanda Gilad Millo, Head of PR and business development Balton CP, Bob Gatera, MD, were joined by the Minister of Youth and ICT, Hon. Philbert Nsengimana, Minister of state for Agriculture and Animal resources, Hon. Tony Nsangira and Innocent Bulindi, CEO Business Development Fund.
‘Farming is cool Rwanda’ aims to achieve a 'mindset' change among Rwanda's Youth in relation to agribusiness and scale up the availability of modern agribusiness technologies, knowledge, financing and market to youth in Rwanda. As well as strengthen and empower the agriculture sector in Rwanda by engaging youth and others to take up agribusiness as a profession and increase the number of farmers practicing agriculture as a successful business in the country.
The launch was announcing our partnership with BDF , the government of Rwanda and was also a call on to any organisation that wanted to be a part of the initiative. During the launch, The schools competition was announced, this was a call on University, TVET/Polytechnique and secondary school students to provide a viable business idea for a Balton Farmer’s Kit and win a greenhouse and entrepreneurship and work readiness training from EDC/Kazi Konze (a project under USAID). We hope this greats a good competitive spirit amongst students and also allows them to start thinking of agriculture in a business sense.
Balton Rwanda and the leading English Newspaper in Rwanda, The New Times partnered to boost the reading culture in Rwanda, though the ‘Education in Newspaper’ campaign. Balton Rwanda sponsored a school in the city of Kigali to get 5 newspapers a day for the year. We believed that they are various ways one can learn agriculture and reading is certainly one of the most crucial methods in broadening their knowledge on agriculture and agribusiness.
We selected Efotec because of their existing agriculture practices, so they are already have interest in agriculture and now we are increasing their pool of information to what goes on in agriculture and the rest of the country. It is important that they remain aware of what happens in the agricultural sector on a regional and global scale, so that they get a better understanding of the discipline and how to position themselves within the sector.
